About ESWTR
The European Society of Women in Theological Research (ESWTR) was founded in Switzerland in 1986 and currently has over 600 members. It is a network of women conducting academic research in the areas of theology and religious studies that provides opportunities for women from different denominations and religions as well as from all of Europe, north and south, east and west, to meet and to dialogue. The Society organizes a European conference every two years. Conference themes are intended to raise important issues in feminist theology. Between conferences, women meet on national or regional levels as well as in thematic subject groups.
The Board, which is elected at the general meeting held at each conference, is responsible for organizing the Society. Each country has a contact woman who coordinates the activities within her country.
Membership of the ESWTR is open to all women engaged in academic theology, religious studies, or related fields. Each member lives and works in Europe or may be admitted after special consideration by the board. Members receive the ESWTR Newsletter and the Journal of the ESWTR . Countries set their own membership fees according to local conditions. There are different membership rates for women who are earning and for those who are studying or unemployed.
